Hoke MacMillan 81st Bar President (1996-1997) Document

As part of our series of posts highlighting 75 years of service to Wyoming Lawyers, post 2 features our second namesake and founder, Hoke MacMillan: 50 years proud to be a Wyoming lawyer.

Hoke served as the Bar’s 81st president from 1996-1997. Hoke was honored for 50 years of service as a Wyoming lawyer during the Wyoming State Bar virtual convention in 2020. The motto,“proud to be a Wyoming lawyer” was developed then and still used today.

Hoke joined the firm in 1974 and says of his mentors, Al Pence & George Millett: As I began my practice with the firm, Al and George stressed, by both word and example, the importance of being involved in the community, and being active in the State Bar Association. I tried to continue that tradition in my practice… As I reflect on the fifty years I’ve been an attorney, I think the thing I enjoyed most about the practice was the fellowship of the lawyers and staff members within the office, and the wonderful clients that I was privileged to serve over the years. If I had an opportunity to change my life, I doubt if I would change it very much. Although I am now retired from the practice of law, I still consider myself ‘Proud to be a Wyoming lawyer.'”
